You Comment, I Follow

This blog is part of the U Comment I follow movement in blogosphere. That means that comments made on this blog do follow and will be spidered. Unfortunately the comments field in Wordpress and Blogger are made NOFOLLOW by default. This is done as a measure to reduce spam. But this has stopped link love.

Blogger by default has the "nofollow" attribute ingrained into the Blogger template. You might not be aware of what this is, so I'll tell you!!

nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.

So, what does this mean for the average Blogger? Well, the meta tags are in the header of a web page, that is, between the tags. There are some webmasters out there that use the meta tag < name ="ROBOTS" content ="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"> on their links page or directory. This means that search engine robots will not index (NOINDEX) or follow (NOFOLLOW) the links on that page.

The use of is most commonly seen during link exchanges where webmasters try to retain their PageRank by instructing search engine robots not to index or follow their links pages or links directory.

There is a pretty big movement out there that is doing away with "nofollow" and trying to get the word out about it. Do you want to join this movement? If you use Blogger (like I do), go to Blogger Beta Template HTML with widgets expanded and replace

< href="'data:comment.authorUrl'" rel="'nofollow'">

with

< href="'data:comment.authorUrl'"> (taking out the [rel='nofollow'] portion)
