I Guess It's That Time Of Year

Willow has been sick for the past 10 days or so. This culminated on Tuesday afternoon when she vomited twice in an hour at daycare. Then she vomited on the way home in the car and twice after we got home for a total of five times. It was the kind of vomit where your stomach spasms and cramps up and you dry-heave after the small amount of vomit has exited your body.

The worst part of the whole thing is that she has never had to deal with anything like that before and since it was strange it was also scary for her. And, I'll admit, for me. After the fourth vomit, we called the doctor.

Since she had a runny nose for the 6 days or so beforehand, the doctor said the vomiting was probably due to her swallowing a bunch of mucus. We tried Pedialite, but she couldn't keep that down either. After the fifth vomit, she was so tired she was falling asleep on my shoulder so we got her ready for bed and put her down an hour early. She slept a record 11 hours that night.

The next day she was back to her old self, thank goodness.

The thing that sucks about her having congestion is that when she can't suck her thumb, she gets cranky. In order to mitigate that the best we could, we used the "Little Noses Stuffy Nose Kit, Nasal Aspirator Plus Saline Spray/Drops" to give her as much comfort as we could. It got to the point where even though she hated having the water squirted up her nose, she wouldn't cry as much since she knew she felt better afterward.

The last time I used it we saw something very strange. She seemed to be clearer on the left side then the right. When we would squirt the saline in the left nostril, snot would come out the right side. But, like I said, it cleared her up for a while. And, she made it through the night just fine.

In my humble opinion, the absolute best thing to have around when your baby has a head cold is the Little Noses. If you have a child under 2-3 years old I HIGHLY recommend having it on hand. Until they can blow their nose, it's the best way to clear them up a little.

I know it's not the last time she will have a cold or vomit. But I hope the vomit, at least, doesn't come back too soon...
