In the News: Talking on a Cell Phone while Pregnant = dangerous?

I was watching the news this morning and intrigued by a story regarding a study completed in England (as all medical studies seem to be now a days) that says that Using a mobile phone while pregnant can seriously damage your baby.

Really?

From the article: "A giant study, which surveyed more than 13,000 children, found that using the handsets just two or three times a day was enough to raise the risk of their babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with conduct, emotions and relationships by the time they reached school age."

The first thing I thought was: Are these people holding the phone to their stomach?
Reading more in the article it says: "The scientists questioned the mothers of 13,159 children born in Denmark in the late 1990s about their use of the phones in pregnancy, and their children's use of them and behaviour up to the age of seven."

This leads me to wonder why they would rely on a pregnant woman's memory of how often they used their cell phone. I don't know about you, but with running after my daughter my memory isn't so hot about what I did a few days ago, let alone how much I used my cell phone when I was pregnant and that was only a little over 8 months ago!

According to the study: "They found that mothers who did use the handsets were 54 per cent more likely to have children with behavioural problems and that the likelihood increased with the amount of potential exposure to the radiation. And when the children also later used the phones they were, overall, 80 per cent more likely to suffer from difficulties with behaviour. They were 25 per cent more at risk from emotional problems, 34 per cent more likely to suffer from difficulties relating to their peers, 35 per cent more likely to be hyperactive, and 49 per cent more prone to problems with conduct."

Call me a skeptic but I just don't buy it. As soon as they come up with a study that monitors use as it's happening instead of relying on people memories, then I may make some changes in my life.
