A Dad's Perspective - Helping out.

So my dad asked me "Why do you help bathe/feed/change the baby? Beverly can do it by herself, it doesn’t take two people." I’ve heard coworkers talk about how their job is to teach the kid how to play sports or drive or to just pay for everything and not to actually take care of the kid on a day to day basis. I have to ask "What the hell are you thinking?"

There are many things I don’t really like to do that I do; cleaning comes to mind. Unfortunately there is no "cleaning fairy" to do the job, and since there are only two people in the house who can take care of the baby, it’s not fair to expect one person to do all the work. Isn’t that why you get married, to be part of a team? Working together to get the job done?

I guess I just like spending time with my daughter. So if that time is spent feeding her, changing her, reading to her, so be it. I don’t remember what I told my dad at the time when he asked his question to me. Maybe now I’d tell him it’s because I want to contribute to the success of my daughter. Whatever she requires to be taken care of, that’s what I’m here for. I mean what’s the point of having a child if I’m not going to take a part of her life until she’s "old enough" to be able to do __________?
