A Dad's Perspective - Sick Time

At my work they don't really let you call in sick unless you are the one who is sick. How do I know this? Well because a while back when Willow was sick (enough so that they wouldn't take her at daycare) and my wife needed to be at work it was up to me to take one for the team. The unique part about my job is that I can't be sick for one day. If I call in sick, I'm off for all the time that I would have been at work that week.

Not that I minded staying home with Willow and taking care of her. Though I can't ever remember my Dad staying home with me when I was sick. It was always my mom who took off work. I guess it's different when you run your own business. I can remember my Dad coming to pick me up at college when I had chicken pox and wasn't allowed to attend class for a week. His face upon seeing me left me with no doubt that he wasn't really up to the job of offering comfort to me. But he did drive me home.

I think that he's better at offering comfort now. He took care of both his parents when they were unable to really care for themselves. So I guess that's the good news. All the time I'm spending with Willow now is to prepare her to take care of me when I'm old. Sweet!
