In The News - Stories You Should Know About

In case you hadn't seen them, I wanted to make you aware of a couple of articles in the news lately.

The first one is regarding a study that was recently concluded in Italy. The article in question is entitled: New study adds to evidence of vaccine safety and it is important, in my opinion, for all parents to read.

The second is an article about a preventable tragedy involving your children and the washing machine entitled: California 4-year-old dies in washing machine

So, if you have a few minutes, I'd like to tell you a little about them.

What the first article is basically saying is that the study recently conducted in Italy is yet another in the growing list proving that there is NO LINK between vaccination and Autism. In the study, conducted over 10 years, children in two groups were given the Whooping Cough vaccination with one variation; one set got twice the amount of mercury in their vaccination, in the form of thimerosal.

And the findings? "The researchers found the children in both groups scored, on average, in the normal range on 11 tests of memory, attention, motor skills and other brain functions.

"Those 11 tests included 24 measured outcomes. Small, but statistical differences were found for only two of those areas, and only for girls. The girls with higher exposure scored worse on a finger-tapping test with their dominant hands, and on a vocabulary test in which they were asked to name common objects.

"There was no difference in boys on those outcomes or others. Researchers also found no difference in tic disorders. And the one autism case found in the lower-intake group was likely a chance finding."

The second article details a tragedy wherein some children were playing and a little girl became locked in a front-loading washing machine when her little brother accidentally started the machine. The little girl was in there for 2 minutes before her mother got her out, and subsequently died. For most, if not all, front loading washing machines there is a way to lock the functionality of the buttons so inadvertently hitting the START will not turn the machine on. This is a safety feature that is there for exactly this scenario.

If you have a front-loading washer, PLEASE check your manual and educate yourself on the safety features that are built into your machine. If you don't have your manual, you can find many of them just by doing an Internet search.

Happy Friday!!
