Your Child's Sleep

I did a search on Google for "infant sleep" and got 556,000 hits. I have to laugh at people who think they need to see a sleep specialist or hire someone to help them get their children to sleep when all the information they need can be found at the local library or bookstore.

The reason there are so many sites with people touting how "You Can Start Solving Your Child's Sleep Problems TONIGHT... Using A Proven, Gentle System That's Guaranteed To Work!" and "I've already helped thousands of parents just like you solve their children's sleep problems, and now I'd like to help you, too!" is because people don't want to take the time to sit down and read a book.

Really? Yes, really.

These people aren't going to tell you anything you can't find out yourself by buying a book and reading it. The difference between these people and a book is they will listen to your problem and then tell you right away what you need to know to get your child to sleep at night without YOU having to take the time to read a book about the subject. But how do THEY know? They read a book (or two or three) and then used the methods described in those books.

My opinion? (and you can take it or leave it but my daughter sleeps through the night and has for a long time) Go any buy yourself a book on the subject. It doesn't have to be Ferber's book (which I HIGHLY recommend) but educate yourself. Don't rely on people who claim to be "experts" who have "Helped hundreds, thousands (or whatever it is they claim)" Because who's going to answer the questions you have later? Are you going to pay more money when you could have gotten literally all the information you need and can refer back to for a long time for under $20?

And, as always, talk to your doctor. Yes, they all have differing opinions on EVERYTHING but, it always makes me feel better when my Pediatrician says I am doing the right thing and they really won't steer you wrong.

**side note**

I would stay AWAY from On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep I asked my Pediatrician about this book and they recommended that I not buy it.

Read the reviews on Amazon, from real people like you, before buying ANYTHING. Even if you don't buy a product on Amazon, they are helpful.
