A Dad's Perspective - Working as a team

A few years ago I was working with a guy and he was complaining about how much money his wife spent. I felt his pain. He went on to tell me how he had bought a motorcycle and a car (both were too good of a deal to pass up) and now that his money was all tied up in them he didn’t want to give his wife his money to spend on their daughter. I thought it odd he was talking about their money as being his and hers but hey it’s not my life.

After some more questioning it turned out his wife wanted to send their daughter to a Montessori school and since it was her idea she should have to pay for it out of her money as he didn’t see why she couldn’t go to a regular school. I didn’t have a child at the time but it struck me a crazy they didn’t at least share in the expenses of their daughter. Mind you, this was a couple that was married and lived together. I think he was a little disappointed when I didn’t take his side. I mean I’m always one to save money but refusing to pay your daughter’s expenses because you don’t think she needs the item is kinda weird. With that logic why not just say NO to everything and never have to pay for anything at all?

It makes me happy to know that my wife and I work as a team. We might not always agree on how much to spend or when to buy something, but once we agree to a goal we work towards it together. So far this has extended into taking care of our daughter.
