Calm Resignation: "Restraint, resignation, or calmness and rationality in somebody's behavior or response to events."
Resilience: "The ability to cope successfully in the face of significant adversity or risk. This capability develops and changes over time, is enhanced by protective factors, and contributes to the maintenance or enhancement of health."
Today is the last full day that we have to given Willow her medication for Pink Eye. Let me give you the typical scenario.
#1) We lay her down on the ground. (This is a two person job, you'll see why)
#2) We take out the medicine. (which is a little tube of goop)
#3) Willow sees the medicine and starts crying.
#4) David holds her down pinning her arms. (if we don't she will constantly bat our hands away and we can't deliver the medicine)
#5) Willow squeezes her eyes shut.
#6) I hold her head still and pry her eyes open to get the goop in.
#7) We release.
#8) Willow cries for less than a minute then goes back to Standard Operating Procedures. (playing with a toy)
But that didn't happen this morning. This morning, Willow saw what was happening and she:
#1) Saw what we were doing and actually remained calm.
#2) She didn't cry.
#3) She didn't squeeze her eyes shut.
#4) We put the goop in and she was fine the whole time.
I am still in disbelief over the whole thing. Who knew that an 8 month old baby could learn Calm Resignation and Resilience?
This is just another way she continues to amaze me.
