Celebrate The Grandparents!!

Today is National Grandparents Day!

I have a grandparent (just the one) who is 96 years old (bless her heart). David has two living grandparents. Little did I know that there is an actual day designated for celebrating Grandparents!! (I mean it's only been around since 1978)

According to the official website: The impetus for a National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade (now age 91), a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

The official song of National Grandparents Day is "A Song For Grandma And Grandpa" by Johnny Prill. The official flower is the forget-me-not.

So, if you have a grandparent that is dear to your heart please give them a call (or better yet a hug) and tell them how much you love and appreciate them on this day.

If you have lost your grandparents, take some time to remember them today. I am sure they would appreciate it.
