One of the things that kept Willow engaged when she was a smaller (immobile) baby was a mat she could lay on with toys dangling for her to look and grab at. We are a fan of Baby Einstein products, not because of the name (I am not one of those who thinks that early exposure to things like classical music does a lick of good) but because of the bright colors and textures.
That is why I have in my Amazon store the Baby Einstein Seek and Discover Deluxe Gym.
Even if you don't buy this one, I highly recommend adding one to your registry (if you are expecting) or going out and getting one if you have a young infant. I guarantee they will love it and it just may give you a few moments to yourself.
