We went to a wedding on Saturday June 28th and Willow did great...for the first 2/3 of the wedding. Then she started to cry so David took her into the foyer and walked with her. She was understandably bored. Having to sit still for over half an hour is way over her threshold.
At the wedding reception we were sitting with some friends who have a baby that is about 6 months older than Willow. He was very cute. My friend Amy didn't bring her daughter Hannah, who is just about the same age as Willow. Ultimately, talk about development started. Things like "Hannah's head is much bigger than Willow's." and "Hannah has four teeth with two on the way." make me wonder about my child and they frankly make me want to compare. Especially when they mention how Hannah prefers table food to baby food.
One of the things that we have been actively trying to do is get Willow to eat "real" food. We gave her spaghetti the other night and she took it all in stride. Her pincer grip is good but she'll bring something to her mouth and open her hand all the way to put it in her mouth. Then, the food falls down and she is looking at her hand wondering where it went. It's incredibly cute.
The one good bit is Hannah isn't crawling yet. She's probably busy composing music or something. At least that's what it can seem like. What it all boils down to is that every baby develops differently and there is no magic age at which babies accomplish things. While there is an average for things like walking and talking, it's just an average.
I find it very hard not to compare Willow to other babies but I have found that I am happier just letting her develop at her own pace. Since this is the only time we will get to see her crawl and walk and talk, if she takes a while it just means we get to enjoy the stage she is in even longer and that's just fine with us.
