Happy 232nd Birthday America!

Happy 4th of July!!

I am from the Northeast. When I was a kid, if we wanted to see fireworks we went to a professional display given by the city. People didn't buy fireworks and let them off in their yard.

Then I moved to Texas. And I honestly don't understand the obsession people have with letting off fireworks.

When you have a baby you develop a consideration for others because you hope that people have consideration for you and your infant. Unfortunately, that is often not the case.

Willow's room is above the garage in the front of the house. I live in a Cul-de-sac and the neighbors take every opportunity they can to buy and let off fireworks, often until after midnight. I honestly saw a little boy that couldn't have been more than about 4 years old letting off fireworks tonight and I thought "what a site". You have the parents drinking beer and "supervising" a 4-year-old who is armed with a lighter and explosives.

Only in Texas (I hope).

We took Willow out onto the porch when the neighbors' kids were letting off firecrackers just before she went to bed. The idea is that if she is familiar with the sound she will (hopefully) sleep through it. It worked with Thunderstorms. We took her out on the porch when we had a good amount of thunder and lightning so she could get used to the noise and lights. Now she sleeps through thunder that literally shakes the house.

But then she has always been a heavy sleeper. When she was very little we were sure to NOT tiptoe around her. I am a light sleeper and I hate it. She is a heavy sleeper and I love it. She sleeps like a rock, especially in the first half of the night. Let's hope she doesn't wake up because of the fireworks tonight.

So far, so good.
